Wyoming Grizzly Bear Captured and Relocated

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department recently captured and relocated a grizzly bear. The adult male was released on May 2, 2025. “The grizzly bear was captured in association with conflict management efforts for cattle depredation, this bear was not the bear responsible for depredation and was released away from the calving pasture,” a report stated. “In cooperation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Shoshone National Forest, the grizzly bear was relocated to the Ghost Creek drainage approximately 60 miles northwest of Cody.”

Agencies Urge Public to Leave Fawns Alone

Although this message is being echoed all across the country, the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department is urging the public to leave fawns alone. They’re being born, and will continue to be, for several weeks.

“Fortin says it is best to keep your distance because the fawn’s mother is almost always nearby,” a report said. “When people see a small fawn alone, they often mistakenly assume it is helpless, lost or needing to be rescued.

“Fawns do not attempt to evade predators during their first few weeks, instead relying on camouflage and stillness to remain undetected,” the report continued. “During these times, fawns learn critical survival skills from their mothers. Bringing a fawn into a human environment results in separation from its mother, and it usually results in a sad ending for the animal.”

Wild Sheep Foundation Warns Against Screwworms

Screwworms

The Wild Sheep Foundation is making aware the threat of screwworms. It’s known for terrible impacts on wildlife and livestock alike.

“As a life-long resident of Texas, this one hit home for me,” commented Corey Mason WSF’s Exec. VP of Conservation & COO. “I recall the horror stories from the last outbreak back in the 1960s and with our recent efforts to re-establish desert bighorn sheep in Texas, not to mention what this means for cattle, mule deer and whitetail deer, this situation must be dealt with swiftly.”

Boone and Crockett Respond to Sale of Public Lands in Reconciliation Bill

According to Boone and Crockett, the House Committee on Natural Resources’ budget reconciliation bill would “sell public land and send the proceeds to the Treasury.”

“The Boone and Crockett Club objects to this – as we have said we would do,” a report said. “In budget reconciliation, the Treasury is the only allowable destination for revenue. Under existing law or regular congressional direction, revenue from land transactions goes into a fund for the betterment of public lands. This is how it should continue to be.”

Arkansas Has Best Turkey Season in 9 Years

Turkey season Arkansas

Arkansas harvested 11,332 turkeys in the spring of 2025. That was 22% higher than 2024. It’s the best season since 2016. “This is the fifth year in a row of increasing turkey harvest, so it wasn’t done overnight,” said David Moscicki, AGFC Turkey Program coordinator. “The vast majority of the birds hunters harvested this year hatched at least two years ago. Annual turkey harvest variability is highly linked to weather, both during the hunting season and during the brood-rearing season two years prior.”

The 41st annual Western Classic Trail Shoot and 31st annual NFAA marked 3D National Championship was held at the Straight Arrow Bowhunters Club, which is in Redding California. Mathews shooter Stephan Hansen won the big event. He was two points from a perfect score.

“It was a really difficult shoot this year because of the windy conditions,” said Hansen. “Being patient and taking your time on each shot was the key to success. Having the ability to trust in my TITLE to execute each shot was the confidence I needed to perform in these difficult conditions.”

Delaware Switchblade Ban Repeal & Knife Law Reform Bill

Delaware’s bipartisan Senate Bill 108 was unanimously released by the Senate Judiciary Committee on its merits. It would remove the restrictions on sale or possession of switchblade knives.

“This Act removes prohibitions in Title 11 of the Delaware Code related to owning or possessing certain types of knives that may be opened by one hand,” said the bill’s legislative synopsis. “Such cutting implements are lawfully used as tools by many working in the trades, and are also popular among outdoor, hunting, and camping enthusiasts. Currently, despite common and myriad lawful purposes, such knives are treated as deadly weapons in Delaware, and therefore subject otherwise law-abiding Delawareans engaged in law-abiding activities to criminal prosecution in the justice system. Removing the prohibitions would permit individuals to lawfully use such tools but would still subject them to prosecution for deadly weapons-related offenses where an individual uses such a knife in the course of an attack or assault aimed at causing death or serious injury.”

Sportsmen’s Alliance Calls for Removal of Four Washington Fish and Wildlife Commissioners

The Sportsmen’s Alliance recently filed a petition for Governor Ferguson to remove four Washington Fish and Wildlife Commissioners. “We thought the evidence of corruption might be bad, but the mountain of evidence we’ve uncovered is like nothing we’ve seen before,” said Evan Heusinkveld, President & CEO of the Sportsmen’s Alliance. “This is bad government on steroids. Secret meetings, exclusion of tribes and others from public meetings, an obvious and open contempt for the public, and a total disregard of the law – it’s all there, and it’s obvious that this is simply the way these four commissioners do business. We are hopeful the governor stands up for the good people of Washington and shuts this down.”
